CDC recommends a three step approach to fighting the flu: vaccination, everyday preventive actions including frequent hand washing and staying home when sick, and the correct use of antiviral drugs if your doctor recommends them.

The people who should get the H1N1 vaccine as soon as possible are the ones who:
1. are at higher risk of getting sick or having serious flu complications - people 25-64 years of age who are at higher risk for 2009 H1N1 flu complications because of an underlying health condition (like asthma) or compromised immune systems.
2. are likely to come in contact with the 2009 H1N1, like the health care and emergency medical service personnel or people who provide care to others
3. could infect young infants who cannot be vaccinated themselves, like pregnant women or people who provide care for children younger than 6 months of age.

Every day preventive actions include:
1. covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze and throwing the tissue in the trash after use.
2. Washing hands with soap and water. If washing is not possible, using an alcohol based hand rub is also effective.
3. Avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth.
4. Avoiding contact with other sick people.
5. Staying home if you are sick - not going to office, school, malls, parties or other public places.
