Is 2009 H1N1 flu serious?

Since April 2009 when the virus last appeared, the H1N1 flu has made thousands of people sick with influenza around the world. However, in most of the cases the patients recovered without any medical treatment. Many were given medication to recover. A few, compared to the number of people who really got sick, died from the H1N1 flu. It is found that those people who died had other complications that made their immune system too weak.

Viruses can mutate very quickly and a non-dangerous virus can become very dangerous - I think that is the whole concern about the different types of flu. It is not possible to have vaccination available immediately and by the time a cure becomes available, a disease can take pandemic proportions affecting human life and activity at a large scale. I think we are lucky that H1N1 is giving us a chance to understand and prepare our systems and educate people about precautions we take just in case the more dangerous flu like the avian one sneaks in! We should be thankful to Nature for this chance! If we are prepared well, dangerous epidemics would not be dangerous any more.
