Is it mandatory to get the flu shot this year?

Even though it seems not to be very threatening, there is a lot of concern about the H1N1 flu. The adminstration and the medical community are working hard to contain the flu and spread the information about preventing it. The parents on the other hand are getting more and more confused. Why?

Is it mandatory to get the flu shot this year?

Postby eva » Mon Oct 26, 2009 9:18 pm

I am hearing lots of parents opting out and choosing not to get the H1N1 vaccination whereas the government is trying to vaccinate everyone it can. Is it mandatory to get the H1N1 flu shot? I know I dont get the seasonal flu shot every year. Would schools have any problems or would I face any legal issues if I do not get my kids vaccinated against the H1N1?

I think it depends on the local authorities. Some state governments like that of NY seemed to have made it compulsory initially for the health care workers, but looking at the shortage in the supply of the vaccine they have now removed the mandate. Some schools too might force all the kids to get the vaccine. I also think that there is legislation that parents can use to opt out and not get a shot as some states allow medical and religious exemptions to mandatory vaccinations.

This is a good question. I hope more people chime in!
