President declares emergency for H1N1

Even though it seems not to be very threatening, there is a lot of concern about the H1N1 flu. The adminstration and the medical community are working hard to contain the flu and spread the information about preventing it. The parents on the other hand are getting more and more confused. Why?

President declares emergency for H1N1

President Obama has declared an emergency to deal with the H1N1 flu virus!

The advantages of this action are:
- the administration would be able to move around resources where they are needed the most
- it would cut down the bureaucratic hurdles allowing the authorities to take a swifter action.

The disadvantages are:
- Even though the declaration is only to be prepared and the flu activity has suddenly not changed overnight, many people are going to feel scared and would rush to get vaccinated when enough vaccines are not yet available.

I think the President is acting on the side of caution. Since the H1N1 flu started so much earlier thanthe regular flu season it can really overburden the health systems. Vaccinating ad well as treating the already sick in huge numbers can really overburden our health systems. May be the declaration of emergency would really help to provide service faster but if that's the case emergency should be in place forever !
