What is the 2009 H1N1 flu?

Even though it seems not to be very threatening, there is a lot of concern about the H1N1 flu. The adminstration and the medical community are working hard to contain the flu and spread the information about preventing it. The parents on the other hand are getting more and more confused. Why?

2009 H1N1 flu is caused by a new virus against which most us have no immunity. The study has shown that this new virus has two genes from flu viruses that normally circulate in pigs in Europe and Asia and bird (avian) genes and human genes. Scientists call this a "quadruple reassortant" virus.

The H1N1 virus first appeared in April 2009 eventually making thousands of people sick around the world. Hence the name 2009 H1N1 flu!
