2010 Immunization Schedules

CDC's 2010 Immunization schedules are now available for all. The main changes are:

The last dose in the inactivated poliovirus vaccine series is now recommended to be administered on or after the 4th birthday and at least 6 months since the previous dose. In addition, if 4 doses are administered prior to age 4 years an additional (5th) dose should be administered at age 4 through 6 years.

The hepatitis A vaccination of children older than 23 months for whom immunity against hepatitis A is desired is allowed.

Revaccination with meningococcal conjugate vaccine is now recommended for children who remain at increased risk of meningococcal disease after 3 years (if the first dose was administered at age 2 through 6 years) or after 5 years (if the first dose was administered at age 7 years or older).

The bivalent HPV vaccine for human papillomavirus (HPV) is available and recommended, and administration of quadrivalent HPV vaccine to males aged 9 through 18 years to reduce the likelihood of acquiring genital warts, is permissively recommended.

CDC lays out recommendations for immunization for children of all ages. In case a vaccination has been missed, there are recommended catch-up schedules available from the CDC.

CDC Schedule 2010 - 7 to 18 Years
CDC Schedule 2010 -Catch Up Schedule for 4 months to 18 Years

The new CDC schedules include recommendations in effect as of December 15, 2009. Based on new research, and any prevailing epidemics, CDC may recommend new vaccination schedules. We try our best to make those recommendations available to our readers and members as soon as they are available from CDC.

Why does CDC have a schedule for the adults? Did they not already have the immunization?

I think there might be some who would not know that they got vaccinated - maybe they would want to catchup with their immunization schedule!

I think many of the immigrants - especially the illegal ones - may not have the necessary immunization - and it is a good idea for them to get the shots they can now! Secondly, those who believed in natural immunization, as talked about in some other threads on this site, may not have had their shots in their childhood because their parents did not want them to. If they are not sure about their immunzation schedule, it would be good to go and get immunized now! Can anyone be "over immunized" by getting the immunization shots once again? I dont think so!
