Who should not be vaccinated for Hib?

Hib stands for Haemophilus influenzae type b. Hib is a serious bacterial disease and can have serious symptoms including meningitis, pneumonia, sepsis, severe throat and skin infections and arthritis.

Hib can be effectively prevented by vaccination.

Who should not be vaccinated for Hib?

1. Hib vaccine should not be given to children less than 6 weeks of age.
2. If the child ever had a life-threatening allergic reaction to a previous dose of Hib, he/she should not be given another dose.
3. As with most vaccines, Hib vaccine is given to people who are not sick at the time of vaccination. People who are sick should not be vaccinated until they recover from their sickness.
