Even after so much news I am yet to find someone I know or in my office falling sick because of the h1n1 flu! I have seen people lining up for the shots which made me think again if I should get one too right away but the lines were too long for me to even try! Now it seems they have run out of the vaccines but there is uproar in the public which I think should have been there if the flu was really prevalent. Is this flu just a scare than a
real threat? Even Obama declared an emergency for it. Am I missing something?

According to the news most of the hospitalizations with flu like symptoms have been due to the h1n1 virus but you are right you don't see many people sick with it. We had one case in our community where a girl died with flu like symptoms but the tests revealed she died because of a heart problem and not due to the flu. Not sure if she had the h1n1 flu or not.

Let's pray it remains just a scare so that people do not lower their gaurds against it and no one really falls sick.

As I have been learning more about it everyday, I know, its not just a scare - it is for real. I know many families who are suffering from it. Fortunately none of them need to get hospitalized. The point is - dont take it lightly. If possible, get vaccinated. If you dont wish to get vaccinated, at least take the utmost precautions to avoid getting the h1n1 in the family.

Of course not! Had it been just a scare how come the number of hospitalizations is higher than the normal peak levels especially when the regular flu has not even picked up yet? There is a lot of misinformation about the h1n1 flu even now!

Thats a ridiculous question! Aren't you aware of thousands of people falling sick? I know many, including myself, who have fallen sick. The only good news is that almost all I know, and I felt the same way, the flu symptoms from the h1n1 virus were very similar to the seasonal flu. Even the doctors cannot differentiate one type of flu from the other without testing completely. Just like the symtoms are similar, the recovery process is also similar. On an average it takes about 3-4 days after which the flu is like gone. One might still have some discomfort, but you would know that the worst is over.

So it is definitely not just a scare! It is real and some people do have complications - may not be from the h1n1 virus but just from any flu symptoms. One should talk to the doctor as soon as one has any flu symptoms.
