How does the avian influenza virus spread?

The bird flu virus normally does not infect humans, but that does not mean humans do not get infected by the avian flu virus. People who work closely with poultry have got infected. Up to now, the transmission of the avian flu virus from one human to another has been very rare and limited.

Viruses do not have wings, so they spread only by contact with something that is already infected. Bird droppings or other secretions from infected birds when come in contact with other birds or humans, the virus can get transferred and make them sick. Different strains of viruses causes different symptoms and if the virus causes a lot of respiratory illnesses that induce coughing and respiratory tract secretions, the virus may potentially travel through the secreted droplets from one person to another. Coming in contact with a sick person, just like the normal seasonal flu virus, avian flu virus can also spread from one person to another.
