Why vaccinate babies?

A vaccine is a preparation that contains weakened, dead or artificial antigens that when injected into the body stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies that can kill the real disease carrying antigens of the same type. Since the injected antigens are not capable to start an infection, vaccines are by and large safe.

Why vaccinate babies?

Though infections and diseases are age and group specific, anyone who is not immune is at risk. A virus simply needs a host that it can invade and take over the cells to start replicating itself. The babies, because they have only few types antibodies that they inherit from the mother, are the most vulnerable. The passive inherited antibodies have a life span of only around a month. Hence the immunization schedule should be strictly followed for babies by getting them vaccinated on time with the right number of doses and booster doses.
